BACKSTORY

In 2022, a coalition of Eastern European nations known as the Contigratzy Coalition launched a major expansionist conflict that became known as The Eastern March. The Western powers ultimately won, but the cost of victory destabilized much of the world. With large portions of the workforce lost and international trade disrupted, critical infrastructure began to fail and many regions faced shortages in energy, food, and basic services. In response, the United Nations began deploying “Stabilization Forces” to major cities and critical locations worldwide to help maintain order and support essential operations.

Stabilization quickly created conflict of its own. Increased security measures and emergency controls were viewed by many populations as occupation, and resistance movements began forming across multiple countries. As global conditions continued to deteriorate, a major concentration of UN forces withdrew to the continental United States, where internal unrest was already growing. However, the decision that reshaped the country did not come from the UN—it came from the American President, who issued executive orders dissolving the United States into Ten Administrative Districts in an attempt to regain control and maintain stability.

Following the creation of the Districts, the armed forces were redistributed to their Districts of record and reorganized into the District Guard Armies (DGA), operating alongside UN elements to enforce new district law. Opposition to the District system rapidly expanded and united under the American Separatist Party (ASEP), leading to the outbreak of the CONUS Wars. By 2033, the conflict and the collapse of infrastructure have reshaped daily life across the former United States, and District 3 has become one of the most important remaining territories—contested, divided, and central to the future of the factions still fighting for control.

Nuclear and radiological disasters across the world have rendered most populated regions uninhabitable or unreachable, collapsing what remained of international travel and communication. District 3 is believed to be the only known area where any organized population, functioning amenities, and surviving remnants of civilization still exist, making it a focal point for everyone still trying to endure what’s left of the world.
